Nature’s Gift offers a certified organic steam-distilled Helichrysum italicuum serotinum, grown and distilled in Corsica.

Offered pure and undiluted and, for safety, convenience, and affordability, in a 10% Dilution in Organic Jojoba Oil. We also offer a 5% dilution of the Serotinum Variety in Rose Hip Seed Oil, the scar healing synergy suggested by Kurt Schaubelt and Dr. Christoph Striecher.

This has been our standby healing oil for years now, and is the essential oil usually referred to on our Helichrysum Healing page. We also offer a solvent-extracted Immortelle Absolute, sometimes called Everlast, much prized by perfumers, although lacking the healing qualities of true distilled Helichrysum Essential Oil. To add to the collection we have imported a new (or new to us!) variety of the Helichrysum family native to South Africa: Helichrysum gymnocephalum high in 1,8 cineole and said to be helpful with respiratory ailments.

Physical Effects of Helichrysum italicuum Essential Oil
The steam-distilled oil of the Italian Everlasting is one of the strongest anti-inflammatories I know. The fragrance has been described as warm, slightly honey-like, rich and buttery, with green notes of wood, spices, herb. It is a fascinating oil because it is made up of several layers of notes that appear to unfold during the dry down.

Literature and aromatherapy lists are full of anecdotal evidence of Helichrysum Italicuum Essential Oil’s amazing power when used on broken bones, stories of doctors being amazed that the break healed in half the estimated time, etc.

My personal experience is that it can fade bruises almost overnight, turning an angry new bruise to one that looks like a week-old-almost-healed bruise while I slept. It acts by having the blood re-absorbed into the tissue, thus removing the discoloration and the pain caused by pressure on the nerves.

According to Dr. Christoph Streicher, Helichrysum Essential Oil is useful in treating heart palpitations, irregular heartbeat and risk of stroke. Blended with Ylangylang it is useful in treating high blood pressure. Dr. Streicher, along with many other authorities, also states that Helichrysum, in a base of Rose Hip Seed Oil will fade scars.

It is my understanding that the amazing scar healing effects of Helichrysum italicuum stem from both the content of neryl acetate and, especially, a high level of italidiones, usually found only in the Corsican oil. If you are going to find the results that we have come to expect from using Corsican Helichrysum please make sure that the oil you are using contains at least 30% neryl acetate, and italidiones in the range of from 8–12%.

Valerie Worwood recommends Helichrysum for rebuilding a weakened immune system.

Any blend created for arthritis, bruising, or scarring needs Helichrysum Essential Oil. One client writes that it is very effective in easing the pain of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. She applies a weak dilution when the pain starts, and within about 10 minutes the pain is gone for hours. (Not sure that relieving the pain and continuing the same activities that caused the pain is wise, but that is a matter of personal choice.)

Helichrysum Italicuum in Skin Care
Helichrysum Essential Oil is anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal. It is a component of our anti-acne and rosacea blends, as well as useful for any rash or skin irritation (blended with German Chamomile CO2 it gives amazing results!).

Corsican Helichrysum is a key ingredient in our Sunburn Soother (blended with Lavender and Chamomile essential oils).

Emotional Effects of Helichrysum
Mentally, it is very supportive and comforting. It is believed by some to open the right side of the brain and improve creativity as well as increase dream activity. I also use it in a meditation blend to encourage spirituality and personal growth.

Again, according to Dr. Streicher, emotionally it can help an individual get in touch with unresolved feelings, emotions that have been denied and/or buried. It is also helpful in restoring memories that have been buried deep in the past. Dr. Streicher recommends it in psychotherapy to aid a patient in dealing with emotions. It helps release defense mechanisms and offers comfort in processing these emotional traumas.

A client who is a psychotherapist uses a blend of Helichrysum and Jasmine Sambac Absolute for helping her clients deal with their pasts.

Helichrysum Essential Oil can have very profound spiritual and emotional effects. It is considered by some to be one of the “sacred” oils.

SHELF LIFE: Approximately 2 to 3 years after you open the bottle. Storing in the dark, refrigerated, and decanting half full bottles into smaller, full bottles will extend shelf life.
