Beginning in July of 2004 we started donating a portion of our sales to various charities. Two percent of our sales on each Wednesday for a month are donated to the named charity. Research has been done on each charity to make sure they are legitimate and have the lowest administrative costs possible. Below is a list of the charities that we have donated to, thanks to your orders.
Recurring charity: MOMS — Midwives on Missions of Service. Their latest crew just returned from another trip to Sierra Leone, and the newsletter about the women they work with just inspired me. I hope you are not tired of helping them… because Nature’s Gift isn’t. They need all of our help. Read about their most recent trip, and their mission here. You may donate on their page (please tell them you read about them here!) or you can add a donation to your order. Below are some other reputable and deserving charities to which Nature’s Gift has donated profits in the past:
KIVA: a person-to-person micro-credit/lending website created to empower individuals and alleviate poverty through lending.
The Wounded Warrior Project offers programs to support wounded service members. They offer programs uniquely structured to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment and engagement to meet a range of needs as these wounded warriors transition back to civilian life.
Magdalene House/Thistle Farms, located in Nashville. Since 1997, it has served women who’ve come from backgrounds of violence, addiction, prostitution, and life on the streets. National media have featured their amazing stories of healing and helping women transition from hopelessness to self sufficiency via a supportive and intensive spiritually based residential recovery program. Magdalene was founded not only to help a subculture of women, but also to help change the culture itself. They stand in solidarity with women who are recovering from abuse, addiction, and life on the streets, and who have paid dearly for a culture that still buys and sells women. Magdalene stands as a witness to the truth that in the end, love is more powerful than all the forces that drive women to the streets.
The Joyful Heart Foundation, dedicated to healing, educating and empowering survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, and to shedding light into the darkness that surrounds these issues.
The Environmental Defense Fund, to give aid after the disaster in the Gulf.
Doctors Without Borders-USA, as a response to the terrible earthquake in Haiti.
The Fisher House™ Program which donates “comfort homes,” built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.
Women for Women is an organization dedicated to helping women survivors of various wars rebuild their lives and their communities. Please read more about their mission at this link here. (100% of donations go to the cause.)
