Description
First and foremost, YES it smells like Lord of the Rings…. dare I say Rivendell. One sniff, I closed my eyes, and I was there. Escaped to a daydream, walking through the forests with the harmony of the Elvin realm. I will not go too far deep into this fantasy world, but that is just how heavenly it is. When our shipment arrived, I immediately opened the canister, dipped in a scent strip and passed it around. Roberta’s eyes elated with sensory joy. Confused by its complexity, she described the citrusy notes that popped and softly faded into a fruity spice perched on a Christmas wreath.
Douglas-Fir is not a true fir, but has it’s own botanical family, Pseudosuga menzesii, False Hemlock. We would have never known it was not a conifer in technicalities, but with our hearts it exudes the smell of an authentic fir the likes of Siberian Fir or Balsam Fir.
I was introduced to this exquisite oil a year ago, and finally we have brought it to you. We are one of few suppliers in the U.S. offering it unadulterated straight from the distiller. We were holding out on introducing it until the holidays came around as a special treat, but recently was prodded by Lora Cantele of the International Journal of Professional Holistic Aromatherapy. She reminded me of an article she recently wrote about her same experience with this beautiful Douglas Fir. We hope you fall in love, as we did, with yet another environmentally friendly, guilt-free luxury essential oil to add to your repertoire. During the distillation process, the distillers biomass boilers produce an abundance of energy, so much so that they provide other local businesses with renewable energy. How cool is that.
As well as the alpha and beta Pinenes found in most conifers, this Douglas Fir is very high in Limonene, which may be what gives it the zesty citrus we detect.
A powerful respiratory aid, Douglas Fir oil is also said to be an effective anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and a great stress and anxiety reducer.
One of my mentors said it is an important oil to support personal transformation. Dr. Bruce Berkowski suggests that Douglas Fir oil “vibrates to the key of paternal protection and nurturing”, and that the oil may be helpful for dealing with deep feelings of inferiority and of anxiety, especially anxiety fueled by a sense of powerlessness.
Some find this specific oil mentally stimulating, so I would use it more frequently during the daytime and perhaps avoid it in the evening. It might be a wonderful ‘in the car’ oil, to help keep the driver alert, while lightening the spirits of all passengers. I guarantee it will be in my diffuser while I do my pre-holiday and possibly post-holiday cleaning.
Blends with: Cedarwood, Frankincense, Juniper Berry, Clementine, and Sandalwood. I plan to try blending with Lemon oil for a concentration or mental focus blend.
Safety: No contraindications or warnings.
SHELF LIFE: Approximately 2 to 3 years after you open the bottle. Storing in the dark, refrigerated, and decanting half full bottles into smaller, full bottles will extend shelf life.

Mary from Colorado –
If you grew up in Doug Fir country and you’ve been away from home… a little of this in an infuser will touch you – heart and soul. I’ve been in NYC for several years now and this Doug Fir oil brings tears of joy to my eyes and calms me like nothing else. It is the one oil I never ever want to be without. Thank you Marge! I’m in your debt.

I’ve waited years for NG to add a Douglas Fir and this one was worth the wait. One of my favorite firs and the true smell of Christmas for many people. Love those candied sweet notes!
