I (Christi) am the Oregano lover at Nature’s Gift. Where some find its aroma overpowering, I find it empowering. Go figure! So when Marge brought in these beautiful new specimens of artisan crafted Italian oils, I was delighted to try the Sicilian Oregano and it did not disappoint.
I admit, when the crew pours Vanilla or Oregano, like Pavlov’s dog, I begin to drool. Well, maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration, but truly, aromatically these two oils can literally make me hungry. When you think of Oregano, you probably think of Sweet Marjoram, Rosemary, garlic, spaghetti sauce, and yummy comfort food. I know I do. Aromatically, Oregano is unmistakable. Yes, it is pungent and strong. Its high thymol in this specimen (and sometimes carvacrol) content makes it so.
This new specimen comes to us from Italy where it grows abundantly in the wild. Oregano is often described as, “a spice disguised as an herb.” Well, whatever it is, I like it, and research studies indicate the herb and the oil are excellent not only for flavoring food but also inhibiting some nasty bacteria. A definite bonus!
Highly antibacterial and antimicrobial, fungicidal, antiseptic, and astringent. Also, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Room diffusion or personal inhalation are best methods of use because Oregano essential oil is a strong skin and mucous membrane irritant. See warning and dermal recommendations below.

WARNING: Oregano Essential Oil is a very strong skin and mucous membrane irritant. If you plan to use it on the skin, please use a VERY mild dilution. Robert Tisserand recommends a maximum dermal dilution of 1.1%. It is also a blood thinner and not recommended for use by diabetics.
SHELF LIFE: Approximately 3 to 4 years after you open the bottle. Storing in the dark, refrigerated, and decanting half full bottles into smaller, full bottles will extend shelf life.
