Frankincense rivae, again, from a family distillery in Somalia. To my nose this is the most citrusy of our Frankincense oils, Christi finds it our most complex, aromatically. We specifically recommend this rarity as an anti-fungal.

Back in Stock
As I write my first draft of this page, poor Jim is feeling totally overwhelmed. We have had perhaps 85 kilos of new oils arrive on one day this week, and it’s his responsibility to do the initial evaluation and to weigh in all the new goodies. (We sell by volume, mls; we order by Kilos.) Each product must have a kilo weighed out, and carefully measured so we will know how many mls that canister contains, before we can cost it out. This is when he takes the product photographs that grace our product descriptions. We have a tremendously long list of new arrivals, all listed on our front page.

Hints/tips/recipes
Before using any of these suggested blends, please remember to properly dilute or emulsify. If adding to a bath, blend into a spoonful of liquid soap, or polysorbate to properly disperse in the water. If you choose to make a room, linen or body spray, dilute the essential oils in either the same amount, or, preferably two to three times as much polysorbate, Solubol, or pure grain alcohol; then add distilled water. The sprays will not have a preservative and should be used up within a couple of weeks. If in doubt about proper dilution, we have a dilution chart here.
All of these are saved from years ago, and simply call for “Frankincense.” Use your favorite. Please don’t ask me which, I’ll say “use what you have.”

Ruth Gilbert wrote, “I have been using a combo of equal parts Inula, Ravensara and Frankincense in the diffuser for long term, allergic congestion–(with additional aggravation from viruses) both nasal and chest, with spectacular results.
Migraine Relief Inhaler:
from Olivia, who shared it for a family member’s migraines.
My not so super secret migraine remedy is an inhaler, 3 drops palo santo, 3 drops frankincense, 3 drops spike lavender, 1 drop ginger CO2, 1 drops peppermint. Use inhaler at the first hint that a migraine is coming.
Frankincense Hydrosol for mouth sores: (from Ann Ovodow)
I had meant to write to you earlier this year about the Frankincense hydrosol. Your description of it quoted a source that said it was good for mouth sores.
On the day I received my first order, I happened to have a mouth sore—a bright red sore with a white spot in the middle. I sprayed some on, and the pain stopped within seconds! When the pain recurred, spraying on more produced the same quick cessation of pain. The hydrosol has a mildly bitter taste—about as mild as coffee or tea—and does not sting when applied. The white spot disappeared overnight, and the rest of the sore healed in about five days.
Later, I ordered a bottle for my sister-in-law, Virginia, who suffered from terrible mouth sores as a side effect of opiate drugs: OxyContin, then Fentanyl, for pain due to multiple sclerosis. To my surprise, she reported the same effect: Pain stopped within seconds, and the hydrosol did not sting when applied.
(Before that, I had been using Anbesol which, for me at least, has three drawbacks: (1) it produces a mild, brief, but unwanted high; (2) it stings severely when applied [Virginia refuses to use it because it stings so much]; and (3) it does nothing to promote healing.)
Respiratory blends: (from a 2004 newsletter)
Frankincense is the first oil I reach for when coughs or congestion come down in my chest. I like to blend it with Black Spruce, Eucalyptus globulous or smithii, Atlas Cedarwood and a bit of Hyssop.
Perhaps two drops of Frankincense, Eucalyptus, Black Spruce, and one drop of the Cedarwood and Hyssop, either in the lamp, or added to a carrier oil and rubbed into the throat and chest. (November 2004)
Emotional / Spiritual Blends:

Nightmares?
Years ago, Serena wrote, “I have discovered an unusual remedy I’d like to share: I have been plagued all my life my horrible nitemares. I am now 44 and still have them. I had on my bed table my two favorites, frankincense and sandalwood, they are truly sacred friends.For some reason I put some drops of each on the bottom of my feet as an annointing gesture, just before I went to bed, and no nitemares that night….strange. The next nite I did the same….again no nitemares. Now I am very suspicious…what could have stopped them? Third nite, I applied them again, ritualistically, and again….no nitemares…..suspicions confirmed. They stopped, but how, why? (I did not connect the oils with them). Finally, after going through all the motions of the three days, what have I done differently…..could it be? I looked up the oils in a book, and discovered that sandalwood and frankincense combined can stop nitemares caused by trauma from past lives! Heeelllooooo!!! So there it was, the esoteric affect of oils on even past life grievences! Are they not woman’s best friend? This is true, and I hope it adds to your remedies.

Jane Eliza shared her secret formula for dry skin for hands, face, wherever:
“The base is half and half rosehip and evening primrose. I’ve also tried avocado instead of the evening primrose and that makes a beautifully nourishing base, too.
To that I add 5% carrot seed… Then 1% Rose Otto (again, I’ve been tempted to use more, but it’s really really not needed)… My current mix also has 2.5% each of myrhh and frankincense…. I drop that down a bit if it’s not for myself – I’m also a bit of a resin freak.”
That’s a bit heavy on the essential oils for my taste. For two ounces of the carrier oil blend, I’d use perhaps 15 drops of Carrot Seed, one or two drops of Rose Otto, and about five drops of Frankincense. If I added the Myrrh, I’d probably keep it down to a drop or two. (In fact, I’m off to try blending some of this for myself; not sure why I had never tried it before!) (And, years later, there’s another precursor for our Cleopatra’s Secret!)
Cracked Skin:

Every springtime I am plagued with cracked/split NOSTRILS (at the top of the nostril).
This Spring I have been using the Shea souffle mixed with corn starch and Myrrh and Frankincense and Sea Buckthorn berry (CO2).
OMIGOD, I can’t believe how effective it is!
The thicker Shea and the oils are definitely doing the trick. It’s simply great.
(I also have the softest hands ever! And no cracks of the fingertips – tho the test of that will be the next 2 months!)
I HIGHLY recommend this for skin splits.

Mature Skin Serum:
Hello Marge: I have been experimenting with my last order…..I have made a MARVELOUS little concoction: My 1 oz. Apricot Kernel of course as my Base……..added 2 drops each of: Borage, CO2 Frankincense, Heli 10% dilution in fractioned coconut oil and 2 drops Rose Hip Seed Oil…… This has been the most wonderful serum! “plumping”….smoothing/soothing pizazz! (This from Jean Flinchum, who has been a friend/client for as long as I can remember, and loves to share her successes.)
Lush body Blend (from Stacey Miller)
I just ran into a 100ml bottle of Australian Macadamia oil that I’d like to use as an after-shower body oil. Here’s what I’ve put in it:
10 drops Jasmine Absolute (Jasminum grandiflorum)
10 drops Ylang Ylang Extra (Cananga odorata)
8 drops Frankincense (Boswellia frereana)
6 drops Rose Absolute (Rosa damascena)
6 drops Sandalwood CO2 (Santalum album)
Great scent for winter if I do say so!
Face Masks:
Moisturising Mask:
2 drops each Frankincense, Rose, and Neroli oils in 30ml (1fl oz/ 6 tsp) Apricot oil with 1 tsp clear, melted honey, mixed with enough finely ground almond to make a soft paste. Spread on face, relax for 15 minutes, rinse off with room temperature water.
Rejuvenating Face Masque:
1 tablespoon bentonite clay (or rose clay, or whatever facial clay you have)
3 drops Sea Buckthorn CO2 Select
10 drops or 1/2 teaspoon Vegetable Glycerin
2 tablespoons Neroli Hydrosol
1 drop Neroli essential oil
1 drop Frankincense essential oil
Blend all ingredients well, adding more hydrosol if necessary to make a smooth, spreadable mixture. Tie your hair back out of the way. Apply to neck and face. Lie down and enjoy the wonderful aroma for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse well with tepid water, moisturize with your favorite carrier.
Honey Skin Soother:
A soothing remedy for winter-weary skin (sent by a friend who forgets where she got this, so I can’t credit the source)
Mix 1 drop of Frankincense essential oil with 2 tablespoons of whole milk (or half and half.) Blend in 2 tablespoons honey. Smooth over face and throat. Leave on 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. (I love the way honey makes my skin feel!) Debbie says she wants to add a drop of Rose Oil to that mixture, and pour it into a warm bath for her “winter weary body.” I think that sounds like a winner! (March 2002)

New Treasures:
A softer, less in your face Coffee CO2. Beans organically grown in Italy, extracted in Germany.
As Summer winds down we start looking for the new crops. Lots of back in stocks, or new productions of old favorites. In no particular order, we have decanted new stocks of resinous Cistus, our long delayed fresh distillation of Australian Tea Tree oil. More lemony scented Litsea Cubeba (also called May Chang,) We have restocked some of our organic cold pressed Citrus Oils, Lemon, and Bergamot, as well as more of our Spanish Spike Lavender. From the Comoros comes Vanilla CO2. I am told that there are NO organically grown Vanilla beans currently available from Madagascar. A severe storm wiped out the majority of the organic plants, and the government has been doing so much spraying that, I am told, even the so called organic beans have been tainted due to wind currents carrying the spray to neighboring fields. We have been able to source a conventionally farmed Vanilla CO2 (at a greater cost than our last batch of organic!) and are watching the prices continue to spiral upwards. Our producer is using beans grown in Comoros, because he feels they are cleaner. A precious commodity, use it sparingly and with respect.
Freshly distilled hydrosols include Cistus, Holy Basil (Tulsi), our more floral USA organic Lavender hydrosol, USA grown organic Rose Geranium hydrosol, and our wildcrafted organically produced Witch Hazel (this was really delayed this year!) Please note, we are offering our hydrosols in a more cost effective 16 fl oz bulk/refill size if we have ample qualities.
For your complexion, two of our favorite carrier oils, more Moroccan Argan Oil, and White Camellia Oil, the secret of the Geishas.
From a market source: “As with frankincense, Somalia’s myrrh-producing regions have been affected by the severe lack of moisture.This drought has weakened the trees and reduced the exudation of gum-resin. Future periods are expected
to be difficult.” We have rejected the last two samples of myrrh EO we’ve received. Now I guess I know why.
Mary Ward wrote: “I wanted to write about Marge’s Little Miracle (Marge’s Miracle Blend.) It’s wonderful stuff! I have been plagued with itching from a shingles attack several years ago. This stuff makes the itching stop right away. Of course, I do have to reapply, but the symptoms go away virtually at once. I can’t really describe the scent of this salve. To be honest, I did not expect to like the smell since I thought I was not overly fond of some of its component parts. But the aroma always gets my attention, and I always feel a surge of some emotion that I can’t quite identify. This salve is a true pain reliever, and I believe it even has some slight impact on emotional pain as well as relief of physical symptoms. Thanks for making this healing balm. I am sure I will be buying another bottle when this one is gone. ” Thinking, Helichrysum is known for healing emotional scars and bruises, as well as the physical ones. We seldom think to use it for that, it is such an amazing physical healer.
Rosa Damascena CO2
Mary later wrote, about the above named Rose,
“Wow! I have a rose in my yard that smells very much like this. It’s called Maggie, from the Texas Rose Imporium. Maggie is sweetly scented, heady and very slightly spicy and has deep carmine red flowers. Our other rose, known as Mary Rose, is much more demure and subdued, with a lovely, soft, very subtle, slightly green scent, and she has soft pink flowers. Both are antique roses. Thank you for capturing the more flamboyant of my roses. This CO2 smells a lot like the flower on the bush. I don’t think I could wear this without grounding it in something deep, but it sure won’t need any fruity top notes to sweeten it up! This is pure rose joy at an unbelievable price.” (That last sentence just delighted my heart! I should add it to the product description!)
Shingles Success:
Suzanne Ledoux writes, “In other news, I have a female client who has been dealing with shingles for well over a year. She experiences it as severe muscle tension and pain shooting down her neck, shoulder, and arm. Since her initial outbreak, typically lesions are no longer present. Massage has been the only modality that has helped relieve her tension/pain. She will go through periods of having to take Tylenol daily to make it through her work day. Anti-viral meds as well as the Shingles vaccination were of no help to her. I followed your recommendations on your website for blending Tamanu with a 25% dilution of Ravensara a few weeks ago after this client was struggling with a particularly painful bout. At that point, she was willing to try anything if it would help ease her pain. I am happy to report that your blend worked great! She applied the blend 2 to 3 times per day directly to the trouble areas. Mild pain relief was noted directly after application and within a few days severity of the pain began to generally decrease. Also noted was that a large lesion has begin to push through her skin just below her collar bone. It seems the blend interrupted the development of the lesion and the skin healed. She used completely one 10ml roller bottle in approximately 8 days and requested a refill. She used only 5ml of the second 10ml roller bottle before she felt she no longer needed it. Her only complaint was the thickness of the blend and concerns of getting it on her clothing. Typically a skeptical person of alternative treatments, she was overall impressed with the results. So thank you thank you for your fabulous website and wealth of knowledge you share with your customers!”
Helichrysum/Burns:
Carrie Wenninger writes, “Burned myself good this morning and immediately thought of my bottle of Helichrysum italicum 10% in Jojoba from Nature’s Gift. Wanted to share this in hopes that you can add to the Heli Healing Page so it might help someone else!:)
This morning I boiled the kettle almost dry and grabbed it, too fast, off the stove as the smoke alarm was going off. It swung into my inner forearm and left a burn that was hot and red all around with a 4″ long white center strip where the metal really connected. I was pretty sure that was going to blister and fill with fluid immediately, but I slathered on some aloe vera, took a dose of homeopathic cantharis, and then applied my Helichrysum italicum oil 10% in jojoba. It stopped hurting pretty quickly (the pain lessened dramatically within a few minutes and then stopped hurting altogether in a little more than an hour). Now, 7 hours on, the white part of the burn has turned red and practically healed, while the red surrounding area (lesser part of the burn) is completely gone. It’s all dry and mending where I expected it was going to get gooshy and either fill with fluid or the skin would just disintegrate and require gauze. Pretty AMAZING and very glad I thought to do that!! Thank you, Marge and Nature’s Gift!!

Neroli as Perfume:
Tiffany Di Emidio shared this blend, “I have used Neroli essential oil for years, but suddenly became hooked on it just last month. I made an amazing roller bottle of personal scent (perfume) for myself with it. I used Neroli, added a bit of Rhododendron essential oil, a bit of Frankincense carteri, & only a half of a drop of Davana essential oil, & the blend is unbelievable. Just heavenly.
(To get a half drop of Davana, I added a drop to my roller bottle & used a pipette to add 19 drops jojoba oil. I mixed it, then sucked it all up with the pipette & squeezed 10 drops back in, which contained a half drop of the Davana.)”

We have emailed all affected clients, but since we’ve not heard back from
some we want to make sure that everyone who purchased is notified.
We had our recent shipment of Choya Loban (Batch #IN-58569)
analyzed, and some discrepancies were discovered during the analysis.
Tests show traces of Cedarwood (because the traditional clay still was not
properly cleaned after dry distilling a charge of Himalayan Cedarwood) and,
more concerning, there were traces of DEP, (diethylphthalate, a solvent and
plasticizer.)
I have spoken to my supplier and believe that the contamination was not
deliberate. It appears that plastic buckets were used to capture the choya as it
exited the still, and the hot liquid caused plastic to leach into the Choya.
Many analysts would not have caught the traces. However, Nature’s Gift works
very hard to ensure that we are (for example) using phthalate free plastic in
inhalers, and would never knowingly offer a contaminated oil. “Phthalate free”
is an important marketing point, and I’m mortified that we have unknowingly made
this product available.
So, what to do? I have contacted some friends who love our Choya, and they’ve
chosen to continue using it; they love it and are not concerned. You, however,
may feel differently.Because the product was not as described, we are offering
all those who purchased the Choya over the past few weeks the option of

RECOMMENDED APP
Not OUR product, but a new essential oil app for phone, tablet, or computer. Nature’s Gift is in no way financially tied to the AromaSense App, but we think it’s a good, useful application. We love the flexibility of the “Full Access” version, which lets you edit descriptions, add new oils, even add new categories, enter your formulas, a wide range of uses. But if you DO want to experiment with the Basic version, there’s an easy upgrade path. We have a lot of friends who have been asking for something like this, well, here it is!

Poison Ivy
Cori Gallager wrote, “I used your German Chamomile CO2 dilution for an acute, and I mean SEVERELY acute outbreak of Poison Ivy on my face!!!. It didn’t even respond to steroid ointment and oral steroids from my allergist. I read a blog note on your website from someone about German Chamomile and tried it. Fifteen minutes later the itching stopped. A few hours later the swelling started to go down and two or three days later I have only minute discoloration. No scars or crusts, no seeping. The surrounding skin also benefitted and looks good. No reaction to the Chamomile.”
When I wrote to asks Cori for permission to use her comments she suggested that I add that she has been a Registered Nurse for 40 years and has worked for the last 36 years at a large community hospital in New Jersey. She hopes fellow poison ivy and rash/inflammation sufferers get some relief! (She has also been a Nature’s Gift client since at least 2001!)
Strained back?
Lisa Mertz recently wrote:
Marge — on Sunday, I tried lifting something way too heavy and strained my back. This is getting to be a recurrent theme. At least I didn’t have excruciating spasms this time. So I made trauma oil with calendula infused jojoba I made, St. John’s wort a friend infused, and arnica oil.
Then I made a body butter with the whipped Shea and some beeswax. And I put the helichrysum-don in it with a little ginger and lavender. I LOVE that heli-don. I did take a few aspirins, but this blend really worked to resolve the acute stage in a couple of days!
Do you remember that anti-inflammatories evidence-informed course I did? You had asked me about possibly presenting at a conference. Now, I’m in the process of putting it online. It’ll be continuing ed for massage therapists but anyone can take it. I’ll let you know when it’s ready.

Sciatica?
Diana Montijo recently wrote,
I recently placed an order for Plai. I ordered some Helichrysum from
you in December and you sent me a sample of your Plai oil. At the time
I happened to be ordering the helicrysum to help with sciatica pain
my husband was experiencing. I made my own blend using Helichrysum,
Plai, Kunzia and St. John’s Wort. It has been very effective for
providing temporary relief from pain and the Kunzia really helps
break-up the knots in his muscles. Are there any other oils you could
recommend that might be a good combination with what I am currently
using for sciatica pain?
And, she had put together the exact suggestions I would use. I might add either some ginger or black pepper for warming, but other than that, this is one of the most power combinations to relieve the pain of any sort of inflammation.
Shingles?
Late in July Maureen, from Martha’s Vineyard ordered some bulk Ravensara Aromatica and four ounces of Calophyllum inophyllum, with the comment that she was hoping this would help, she had been using too low a dilution and had just read my recommendation (for a 25% dilution.) This week she wrote, “PS: Shingle formula (25% ravensara in callophyllum) was amazing. Still using. Rash never really went to full blown blisters. Saw improvement every day. Seemed miraculous; thanks so much!!” [Ah, we are all delighted that it helped!]
Ticks?
Kristen recommends this treatment following a tick bite or removal of a tick to prevent Lyme Disease.
1/2 oz carrier oil
5 drops Thyme Thujanol
3 drops Hyssop Decumbens (Please note Mark Webb suggests Rosalina Oil as a substitute for the Hyssop Decumbens)
8 drops Lavendula angustifolia
Blend well. Apply to tick bite or immediately after removing a tick, to prevent infection and reduce inflammation.

Rosemary Evans had written about our Coffee Blossom Infusion’s
anti-aging properties. I said I had never heard of it being used as an
anti-aging skin serum and asked if she could share her source. She couldn’t
remember the original source but said that she had read that it improves all
over suppleness, tone and elasticity of skin. Use it on your face as well as
other areas of your body like hands, elbows, cuticles, neck and chest. It’s
great for pre and post shaving as well She went on to add that she had
been using it on her face night and day for months now and really thinks it is
anti-aging. I never would have known, and will have to have our
South African producer reserve some more for us. What a lovely, fragrant

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for including your trauma
oil in last month’s sale. I was just about out from another supplier and
decided to give yours a try. Boy, am I glad I did!! I much prefer yours.
Don’t get me wrong, theirs worked. But, yours is a noticeable
improvement! It has a superior glide and I felt the effects as soon as I
applied it. And, I really appreciate the dispenser bottle you use.
I broke my neck in two places 7 years ago. I am doing well, but every
now and then I can strain and aggravate the area and get severe muscle
guarding and spasms from my shoulders, up my neck and head leading to
excruciating pain and migraines. I did that this week and have been
using hydrotherapy, essential oils and acupuncture. Tonight, things
starting going from stiffness to spasm again.
Slap to forehead! I have your trauma oil. I applied it without any
essential oils just to get a sense and voila I felt instant relief in my
shoulders and neck. I will be keeping this on hand for sure and

Samantha Cricks shared, on Facebook, about the power of our
German Chamomile CO2s. She wrote, The diluted German Chamomile CO2 is
amazing at combatting the inflammatory response I get from mosquito bites.
I blow up from them. You couldn’t even see my elbow bone earlier today,
the entire joint and my arm were inflamed and swollen. I tried Helichrysum and
Lavender the day before. Nothing. I then tried the G.C. My arm
stopped itching within minutes, the redness and swelling was gone within an
hour.

PRODUCT RECALL — Red Myrtle
Red Myrtle: We have just recently realized that for the past three months we have been offering a mislabeled Red Myrtle essential oil. What we have been shipping as Red Myrtle, appears to be Green Myrtle, which is not normally produced in Tunisia, but the gc/ms does indicate that we have been offering the wrong product.
The Batch number is TU-16969.
We are contacting those we know have purchased the affected batch of Myrtle, but if you have a bottle of Nature’s Gift with this batch number and do NOT hear from us by close of business Friday, please contact me.
We have sourced a lovely TRUE Red Myrtle, wild crafted in Morocco, that will be made available very shortly.
INVENTORY
Due to some changes in our accounting system, we are taking a midyear inventory, the middle of next week, probably Tuesday and Wednesday, June 14th and 15th. Normally we would do it at the end of June (end of second quarter is a nice round date, after all!) but then we would run into July 4th sales and who knows what. So, we are thinking midmonth, midweek is a slower period. At any rate, orders placed late in the day Monday through Wednesday may be delayed in shipping. If anything is an extreme emergency and can not wait, select EXPRESS shipping and contact us; we’ll do what we can. Otherwise, apologies in advance for a two day delay.

I don’t know when we’ve published as many blog articles as we did this past June. Twelve in one month may be a record. (Did you know that ingested Frankincense oil can both counteract cancer medication and possibly protect the cancerous cells?)

After the Bite Penelope Cansler has been a client for longer than I can remember, and always has suggestions to expand the uses of our products. She recently wrote:
I wanted to tell Christi about a use I have for After the Bite which isn’t the one she formulated it for.
My kitty was a rescue cat and ended up giving me lots of scratches over the early months – and I do mean scratches. At times I put on leather garden gloves to pick him up. I always used Baby Bottom Balm on the scratches. (Sometimes I put hydrogen peroxide on first, but not always.) The Balm would heal, but it didn’t take away the stinging that could last quite awhile. One time, out of curiosity, I used After the Bite on it instead of Balm. Worked like a charm, the stinging immediately stopped – which with its ingredients isn’t really surprising. So it’s now my go-to for any cat scratches. Though I’m happy to report that’s not very often now. Shadow has turned into a very loving, rarely-scratching kitty.
So, Christi, thank you for creating After the Bite!
Rosewood We ship a LOT of Rosewood Essential Oil to China. All of our wholesale clients buy it in large quantities. I asked why. “It smells a little wood, a little flowers. In my childhood, we often used the Rosewood furniture. Now, today, Rosewood furniture is expensive, rarely used. The aroma can carry me back to my childhood.” Nostalgia. I wish there were an oil that would carry me back to my Granny’s kitchen!
Petitgrain In my CCAP course we were taught that Petitgrain could be an effective substitute for Neroli, especially for the emotional uses where Neroli truly shines. In all honesty, I have always been skeptical. In my experience and opinion, nothing equals Neroli for certain specific situations. But Tiffany recently shared this, which may make me reconsider:
Speaking of emotional uses…your Petitgrain saved my tail yesterday! PMS struck, and then I was a fool and read a story on Facebook about an old dog and then I could not stop crying. I had to be somewhere soon so I opened the Petitgrain and took a whiff (IMMEDIATELY felt my crazy emotions calm down) and then put a drop on a washcloth with a drop of Egyptian Geranium. Ahhhhh. The speed was amazing!
Petitgrain and geranium… for “emotional balance” good to try the next time emotions are raging.
Being “Picky” A recent comment from an Anonymous Client at checkout just delighted me: “I love shopping at Nature’s Gift, because I know that when it comes to quality, they are picky FOR me. I like that security.”

My daughter has been suffering from Molluscum for several months and have been to dermatologist twice to have them “burned off” only to have more appear and continue to spread. I was at my wit’s end when I came across this blog. I was skeptical, but was out of ideas. I ordered the Ravensara in calophyllum blend and within a couple of weeks – all spots have completely disappeared and I haven’t seen any new breakouts. We had amazing results and I felt the need to share. Thank you so much for this blog!!

And the following (not sure what word to use for outer vaginal skin—where toilet paper sticks—an embarrassing subject) for those of us with menopausal dry outer vaginal areas: I have been using an elixir of Cranberry, pomegranate, Tamanu with a few drops of seabuckthorn CO2 & frankincense CO2, rose geranium EO not only on my face on my menopausal dry outer vaginal area. Apply to clean DRY skin. It really makes a difference. Also have been using alcohol witch hazel infused with calendula flowers. I purchased your non alcohol witch hazel for this purpose as well. Changes Coming:
A lot of you have used the new “client feedback form” that we make available at checkout. For the most part we are delighted and gratfied by the comments and the ratings you’ve left. The consistent problem stated by so many of you has been the difficulty in navigating our website, the difficulty in moving between the website itself, with all the information about our products, and the shopping cart. The two just don’t interface well, and the sheer number and range of products that we now offer has totally outgrown the navigational system that I designed about 15 years ago. The good news? We are working with a very gifted web site designer who is coming up with wonderful ideas to bring our site’s design into the current decade. We’re excited and can’t wait to show you the results of her work. But it’s a long slow process. I’m not sure that it will be finished before the New Year. (And I’m not sure that we would want to cut over to a new system in the middle of the Holiday rush at any rate.) We appreciate your patience while we try to make your experience at Nature’s Gift easier and more intuitive.

What can I say—there has been little time for Blogging this month. Since our August Newsletter, I’ve posted our congratulations to Christi for successfully completing the Institute of Integrative Aromatherapy course. Christi went on to post one of her successful case studies written for the course, lessening painful periods via aromatherapy. (I’m hoping she will post several more of her case studies!) In September, I wrote of our memories of that dreadful September ten years ago. Earlier today I wrote my first memories of the AIA conference and shared one piece of valuable knowledge that I brought home…a study about postpartum depression and an aromatic blend that significantly eased it.

Lavandin Grosso

Dust Mites:
There has been a lot of information published to the effect that adding Eucalyptus Globulous to the washing machine can eliminate dust mites (a major allergen). We just recently came across a study showing that the components of Geranium Oil (pelargonum graveolens) also can kill dust mites. Geraniol was shown more effective than DEET. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18955817
We have read several places that Rose Geranium is also an effective tick repellant. I know we have some clients who add a ml or two of Geranium or Rose Geranium oil to our SkeeterBeater.
Genital Herpes
Lisa Mertz recently wrote the following:

I was particularly interested in essential oils and am THRILLED with the fantastic results that the Lemon Tea Tree Oil has had in keeping the mosquitoes out of my horse trough. A few drops and the bugs are gone and the horses drink the water fine. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Please pass this on to any others worried about West Nile Virus and their babies. I am in Alabama, tons of mosquitoes and larvae till I tried this. I put 4 gtts only in a trough approx. 4 ft. long by 3 ft. wide by 3 ft. deep. The water stays crystal clear.

Infused Oils
I had been taught that infusing blossoms repeatedly in a carrier oil can give a truer aromatic profile than an absolute or a distillation. Our new Blue Lotus is SO much more floral than the absolute we’ve offered for years. I fell in love when we sampled it and have been waiting since before Christmas for this aromatic treasure to arrive. Intensely aromatic, it works as a perfume or for a spiritual anointing oil. Also, less intense, coconut oil infused with blossoms of our beloved Golden Champa. A wonderful after bath moisturizer.

On our Facebook Page over the past few weeks we’ve shared and received shares about GMO crops, nourishing breakfasts, been asked for suggestions to help with Rosacea, Cystic Acne, storing hydrosols, a study showing that Lavender helped ease Post Cesarian pain and may be more effective than Betadyne in episiotomy wound care. We shared links to other blogs and to articles that we thought would appeal to our friends and clients. New products and limited supplies of “found in inventory” products were announced there first. Various friends and clients shared their experiences using the oils for various and sundry emergencies or “situations.” Facebook has become our favorite way to have fast communication and feedback from our clients. Miracle Oil: Earlier this month Morgan Leavitt, a massage therapist in Chicago, wrote:
I’ve been meaning to write for a while now to praise your oils, and specifically cheer for Marge’s Miracle Oil. I am a Clinical Massage Therapist, working in a multidisciplinary medical clinic, and last October the number of patients I saw per week doubled. November became a very painful month for me as my body tried to adjust to the increased work. I had a bottle of the Miracle Oil that I had been using on my private patients for aches and inflammation, and started using it on myself. I’m pretty convinced that the oil is the reason I didn’t chop my arm off. Used nightly, it reduced the inflammation I experienced from the shoulder down to my wrist, gave the tissue time to heal, and the pain went away faster. I don’t have to use it as often now, but I always have a bottle on hand. So keep doing what you’re doing! And I’ll keep buying.

Formulas, Recipes, and Suggestions
Skin Tonic: A client recently wrote that she had been told to use apple cider vinegar as a facial toner for her problem skin. She tried it and (no surprise) it burned and did damage to her skin. Now, we need to maintain the acid mantle of our skin… and if vinegar is suggested, this is a more appropriate blend:
1/4 cup (2 fl oz, 60 mls) apple cider vinegar
7 3/4 oz distilled water (enough to fill an 8 oz measuring cup when added to the vinegar)
10 drops essential oil of your choice
Blend the essential oil into the vinegar, add distilled water, pour into a glass bottle, preferably with an atomizer top. Shake well before using. Spritz to refresh face and body during the day.
We suggest using glass since the essential oils will separate out and float on top of the water/vinegar mixture, and can dissolve a plastic bottle.
A reminder: All of our hydrosols are mildly acidic and will gently restore the acid mantle.
I came across these years ago and don’t remember the source:
This blend was suggested for a body splash. However with all those citrus oils I’d be concerned about both irritation and photosensitization. But it’s a delightfully happy blend for the aromalamp. If you DO decide to use it as a body splash or perfume, please substitute Bergamot FCF for the cold pressed.
Aromatic Foot Powder
1/2 cup arrowroot (or an equal part blend of baking soda, cornstarch and clay)
8 drops essential oils of your choice (see suggestions below)
Combine the arrowroot and essential oil, crushing the small clumps of oil between your fingers or with the back of a spoon to evenly distribute them. This is made only with pure essential oils, no base oil is added.
Find an airtight container, preferably with a closable shaker top (like a baby powder bottle. Pry off the top, add the powder, then replace the top.
Aromatic foot powder may be sprinkled in socks, tennis shoes, and boots to keep the feet dry and cozy.
Suggested Oils: Cypress (especially useful for sweaty feet), Pine, Juniper, Ylang-ylang, Grapefruit, Rosewood, and Frankincense are all suitable. Teatree or Saro would be helpful against various foot fungus infections.
Fragrant Body Splash:
4 oz. grain alcohol or 39C denatured alcohol
4 oz. distilled water
1 tsp. essential oil blend
1 tsp. glycerine
Mix the e.o. with the alcohol, and *slowly* (almost drop by drop) add the water. Finish with the glycerine. Store tightly sealed.
Allergies:
The TV news has been warning us that springtime allergies started early this year here in the South. Christi reminds us all that inhaling our sweet Blue Tansy Essential Oil is the most effective thing she’s found for her springtime allergies. She also suggests putting it in an inhaler rather than sniffing from the bottle to avoid having blue nostrils!

Another client wrote about using our MERCY body wash to help prevent Urinary Tract Infections. We have heard this many times over the years and thought it was time we shared the suggestion. We shared a research article showing the successful use of a blend of Basil, Peppermint and Helichrysum to ease the symptoms of mental exhaustion (burnout.)
HOLIDAY BLENDS:
Holiday “Clean Air” Formula / “Your House Smells Terrific” air purifying mist.
Blend together
30 drops of cinnamon leaf oil
20 drops of clove oil
20 drops of sweet orange oil (or blood orange)
10 drops of cedarwood oil
Add 5 mls of Polysorbate or high proof alcohol. Slowly add 4 ounces distilled water.
Use as a room spray. (Or omit the polysorb and water and use as a holiday diffuser blend.)

Autumn in the Woods
Autumn Forest Blend from a newsletter over a decade ago.
My friend June recently contributed this lovely seasonal blend for the diffuser or lamp:
I just put together a forest-type blend of 15 drops Black Spruce, 1 drop Atlas Cedarwood, 1 drop Galbanum and have it in my nebulizer right now. Lovely, rather like the woods on a late autumn afternoon after a rain. Woodsy but with a touch of composting leaves, very reminiscent of childhood walks in New England. It will be interesting to see how it mellows after a few days. I might even try this in a bath, diluting it in some Jojoba oil first, or try it for meditation. Most intriguing.
This transplanted New Englander gets homesick every Autumn, this blend DOES smell like home!
Gentle Honey Cleanser
And just in time to try our new Lotion Bottles, my friend Ravenna in Australia shared this delightful facial cleanser:
Honey gently softens and cleanses the skin. This is a mild cleanser that works well for dry skin types. It is wonderful, leaving your skin so soft and moist! Its not at all sticky and can be used as either a facial cleanser or bath gel. Makes a nice gift.
1/4 cup honey
1 tablespoon liquid castile soap
1/4 cup glycerine
10 drops of your favourite essential oil
Mix together all ingredients and pour into a clean bottle. Remember to use non breakable containers if you are going to be using it in the tub or shower.
Scented Christmas Cards: (start now!):
Two methods for producing holiday scented cards — the one I’ve always used and one Christi found online.
1. Dampen a cotton ball or paper towel with your favorite holiday oil or synergy — a conifer, a gentle spice like nutmeg or cinnamon leaf, our Holiday Joy synergy — put the moistened cotton ball in a bag or box that may be sealed tight. Enclose your cards and envelopes in the sealed box and let stand for at least a week or 10 days. (I used to do this with my business cards, they were wonderful!) This method, of course, assumes you have already bought your holiday cards; it’s not for the last minute crafts person.
2. Christi’s speedier version — using a small pipette or dropper, place a tiny drop on one corner of each card. (I would make sure I was using a colorless blend of essential oils for this one!)
