  • HOLIDAY BLENDS

This is an old favorite of mine (and one of my mothers recipes) adapted to use either our organic Sweet Orange or Organic Blood Orange Essential Oil instead of grated orange rind. (Saves my fingernails!)

    ORANGE MELTAWAYS Cookies

1 Cup soft Butter or Margerine (I use butter!)
2 Cups sifted Confectioners Sugar (divided!)
    1 1/4 Cup UNSIFTED flour
    3/4 Cup Corn Starch
    3 Tablespoons Orange Juice
3 drops Sweet Orange or Blood Orange Essential Oil.
Cream butter with Essential Oil. Add 1/2 cup confectioners sugar and beat until fluffy.
Beat in Flour and Corn Starch until smooth. Cover and chill for at least two hours.
    (Overnight is better!)

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
Roll the chilled dough into 1 inch balls, and place on an UNGREASED cookie sheet.
Bake the cookies for 8 to 10 minutes until firm and barely golden. Cool slightly (they
will be very fragile) and remove to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Mix remaining 1 1/2 cup confectioners sugar with the 3 Tablespoons Orange Juice.
Put wax paper under the cookies on the rack, and spoon the orange glaze over them.
    Let dry.

Makes approximately 3 1/2 dozen cookies that freeze well, so you can make them now to serve in two weeks.

    MULLED CIDER
    Marian recently wrote:

I made some homemade spiced cider with our neighbors apples. To 32 ounces of fresh cider, I added 1 1/2 – 2 cups Orange Juice, a small cinnamon stick, a dash of until thoroughly hot and served. It was delish. I haven’t used the EO in a cider before, just orange zest…but this time, there is no zest to strain. It is REALLY good if you add a cabernet, slightly warmed to the mix for the adults:o)

(Thanks for letting us share that, Marion!)

    Pomander Ball Cleanser
Not only does this preparation clean but the essential oils disinfect and provide a natural, festive fragrance.

1 teaspoon Sweet Orange or Mandarine essential oil (5 mls)
a few drops of Clove Oil and Cinnamon Leaf oils
    1 teaspoon washing soda
    2 teaspoons borax
1/2 teaspoon liquid soap or detergent
2 cups hot water (to dissolve the soda and borax)

Combine the ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake to dissolve and blend the minerals. You can spray this cleaner onto a surface then leave it for 15 minutes before wiping it off, to give the essential oils antiseptic qualities time to work (makes 2 cups).

It will leave your house smelling like an old-fashioned, clove studded pomander ball!

Holiday “Clean Air” Formula – “Your House Smells Terrific” Air purifying mist.

    Blend together:
30 drops of cinnamon leaf oil
    20 drops of clove oil
20 drops of sweet orange oil (or blood orange)
    10 drops of cedarwood oil

add 5 mls of Polysorbate or alcohol. Slowly add 4 ounces distilled water.

Use as a room spray. (Or omit the polysorb and water and use as a holiday diffuser blend.)

Shared by Lucinda Jenkins of Glenbrook Farms. (Lucinda is a great source for dried herbs and herbal teas. If you drop by her website, think about trying her Berry Rooibos and Spicey Rooibos Teas. Both are favorites here.) I like this blend in the aromalamp (without the water, of course!) It’s a wonderful holiday
blend if you are tired of the evergreens.

    QUOTATION for the Month

“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he
has not, but rejoices for those which he has.” —Epictetus
