Sweet licorice aroma. Often recommended for massage where there is cellulite and for the digestive system, especially for indigestion or gas.
Fennel essential oil is often recommended for PMS and for menstrual difficulties. I add just a drop to my PMS blend. Its distinctive scent is softened by blending with Rose Geranium and Clary Sage. I suspect its mildly diuretic action can help with fluid retention that often adds to the discomfort of PMS.
Some sources recommend Fennel for detoxifying the body, that it is helpful for detoxifying from overindulgence in alcohol, nicotine, and other toxic substances. I think a blend of Fennel, Juniper, and Seaweed Essential Oils, blended into sea salts, would make a wonderful detoxifying bath. It was an ingredient in our Detox Synergy.
Fennel is often recommended for breast firming massage and to promote milk production with new mothers, however, I think that the distinctive aroma could interfere with the bonding that needs to occur between the mother and newborn, and would prefer to see nursing mothers drink fennel seed tea.
Emotionally, fennel can ease stress and nervous tension without having the mildly sedative effect that many of the relaxing essential oils bring. A blend of Sweet Fennel and Rosemary can both relieve stress and energize; the only other essential oil that I know of with that effect is Pink Grapefruit.
WARNING: Fennel can be a skin irritant. Do not use it on young children. Do not use if pregnant. Do not use if suffering from epilepsy. Caution: it may affect diabetes.
Robert Tisserand advises that: Drug interaction; reproductive hormone modulation, potentially carcinogenic, based on estragole content, may inhibit blood clotting, skin sensitization if oxidized. Contraindicated during pregnancy, breastfeeding, endometriosis, estrogen-depenedent cancers, children under age 5. Possible interactions with diabetes anticoagulant medications, major surgery, peptic ulcer, hemophilia, other bleeding disorders. Maximum dermal use: IFRA 0.2%, Tisserand 2.5% based on 4.8% estragole content. (Note, our current batch has only 3.13% estragole. I would still limit its use.)
**For other possible oils to avoid, please see our essential oil Contraindications page.

BLENDS WELL WITH: Basil, Geranium, Lavender, Lemon, Rose, Rosemary, and Sandalwood, but personally my experience is that fennel will take over a blend unless used very sparingly indeed.
Young green tips are pruned, and lovingly distilled to yield a truly unusual oil. I love Cypress Oil, and I especially love this fresh new specimen!
Cypress is a known astringent, excellent for oily skin, and may be useful for circulatory and respiratory problems.
It is often used in blends to ease arthritis pain. Can ease the pain of aching muscles or menstrual cramps. Stimulates circulation. I have seen it recommended in a compress to treat hemorrhoids.
Emotionally, Cypress is comforting in case of loss and grief; the traditional oils used to treat grief are Rose and Jasmine. Adding a touch of Cypress to either or both of them can cut the sweetness of a grief blend, and, in my mind, add a freeing note. A wonderful blend for a man who is struggling with losses. It is a wonderful oil for helping us survive times of overwhelming transitions, moving, changes in jobs or in relationships.
Peter Holmes, in The Energetics of Western Herbs indicates that Cypress Essential Oil regulates menstruation and menopause, increases hormones, that Cypress’s comprehensive action—endocrine, neural and tissular—engages in a number of gynecological conditions characterized by blood congestion, fluid congestion, and tension. He recommends its use for heavy periods, intermenstrual bleeding, even for fibroids and cysts, endometritis, and for gynecological conditions arising from emotional causes.
It is also alleged to increase concentration and might be a worthwhile addition to a study blend.

Ten blog articles in the month of June! We amaze ourselves.
Many of them (but not all) were in response to Monday’s With Marge

Kelly LaValle recently wrote about our Reunité
Anointing Oil: I feel like my worried, overthinking
mind was lifted out of my head and replaced by a content, peaceful one.
The Reunite is lovely. I will have to get the Synergy next time.
I am so glad she gave me permission to share. and I love her phrase,
my overthinking mind. I sometimes have one of those, too!

Rosemary Evans had written about our Coffee Blossom Infusion’s
anti-aging properties. I said I had never heard of it being used as an
anti-aging skin serum and asked if she could share her source. She couldn’t
remember the original source but said that she had read that it improves all
over suppleness, tone and elasticity of skin. Use it on your face as well as
other areas of your body like hands, elbows, cuticles, neck and chest. It’s
great for pre and post shaving as well She went on to add that she had
been using it on her face night and day for months now and really thinks it is
anti-aging. I never would have known, and will have to have our
South African producer reserve some more for us. What a lovely, fragrant
alternative to Cleopatra’s Secret Serum. Thank you, Rosemary!

And Ellen Brenner shared this about Trauma Oil a few months
ago. (The emailed exchange got hidden.)
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for including your trauma
oil in last month’s sale. I was just about out from another supplier and
decided to give yours a try. Boy, am I glad I did!! I much prefer yours.
Don’t get me wrong, theirs worked. But, yours is a noticeable
improvement! It has a superior glide and I felt the effects as soon as I
applied it. And, I really appreciate the dispenser bottle you use.
I broke my neck in two places 7 years ago. I am doing well, but every
now and then I can strain and aggravate the area and get severe muscle
guarding and spasms from my shoulders, up my neck and head leading to
excruciating pain and migraines. I did that this week and have been
using hydrotherapy, essential oils and acupuncture. Tonight, things
starting going from stiffness to spasm again.
Slap to forehead! I have your trauma oil. I applied it without any
essential oils just to get a sense and voila I felt instant relief in my
shoulders and neck. I will be keeping this on hand for sure and
using it in my healing needs. Thanks, again!

Samantha Cricks shared, on Facebook, about the power of our
German Chamomile CO2s. She wrote, The diluted German Chamomile CO2 is
amazing at combatting the inflammatory response I get from mosquito bites.
I blow up from them. You couldn’t even see my elbow bone earlier today,
the entire joint and my arm were inflamed and swollen. I tried Helichrysum and
Lavender the day before. Nothing. I then tried the G.C. My arm
stopped itching within minutes, the redness and swelling was gone within an
hour.
I love hearing how our oils really did make a difference for
somone..thank you for letting us share, ladies!

NEW PRODUCT!
New, to repair winter damaged skin: Buttery Repair Cream.
A friend has concocted a rich, healing blend of exotic butters… Shea, Cocoa,
Kokum and Mango, blended with Aloe Juice, Rose Hydrosol, Vegetable Glycerin, and
Witch Hazel. Calendula and Carrot Seed add to its cellular repairing effects.
This is the richest, thickest cream I have ever experienced, but it absorbs well
and quickly. I am seeing results on my winter chapped hands that I have never
experienced with any of our earlier products. It is very faintly scented by
the raw ingredients. After applying to my skin, all I can smell, if I try
really hard, is chocolate, from the cocoa butter. If you choose you could stir
in a few drops of your favorite skin repair essential oil or synergy, but I urge
you to try this “as is” with no added ingredients.
Because it is too thick to package in a bottle or even a Malibu, we are offering
it in 1 and 4 ounce jars, with a tiny cosmetic spatula to scoop it out with.
(Less than clean fingers can contaminate the most well preserved natural
product. Please handle this with care.)
I haven’t yet tried this on my elbows, heels, and other difficult areas, but I
expect amazing results when I do.

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE:
In December we will be open Tuesday, December 23rd, which is also the
last day to ship Express Mail in the US for delivery by Christmas. Orders
placed by noon Central time (with no billing problems!) will ship that day.
We will not be here Christmas Eve or Christmas Day or Friday the 26th. (Some
of us have out-of-state families and are taking a long weekend to go
visiting.) We will return on 12/29 through 12/31 for inventory but no more
orders should ship until January 2nd. (If, however, you have a true
emergency and need, for example, some Calophyllum and Ravensara, contact us
by email. We may be able to make an exception for orders that include
Express Mail and are for true emergencies.) Without prior arrangements, all
orders will be processed after inventory in the order they were placed.
SHIPPING DEADLINES:
For Express delivery to Europe, Asia, the Pacific Rim the Express Mail
shipping deadline is 12/14. Express mail to Canada needs to ship by the 16th.
DOMESTIC SHIPPING:
Priority Mail packages need to ship by Saturday, the 20th, and, if you are a
late shopper, the Post Office says that Express Mail packages shipped on Tuesday
the 23rd will be delivered by Christmas day.
That is what the post office says. Based on the results of orders shipped
during this past week, I am a bit skeptical.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING:
For Asia and the Pacific Rim, Australia and New Zealand, and Europe the USPS
guarantees delivery by the 25th for packages shipped via International Express
by December 14th. For Canada, the deadline is December 16th. Please note
these estimates do not allow for delays in customs processing.
All of these deadlines are suggested by the USPS. We do not and can not
guarantee delivery by a specific date. IF there is no problem with the payment
for your order we will ship on the same or next business day, and all retail
orders placed through December 22nd will ship before we close on the 23rd.

BACK IN STOCK: Tis the season for restocking!
Recent arrivals from France:
Our long awaited Wild High Altitude Lavender —la crème
de la crème—also fresh distillations of
all three of our organic Lavandins, more Lavender Mailette, and (in
my opinion) our best value— Population Lavender. We are in process of
having all of these oils tested, but for now the GC/MS analysis on our website
is from the 2013 distillation. Also from our favorite producer, both
organic Thyme Linalol and rare Thyme Thujanol. Sourcing French Thyme
was a challenge this year, and the cost of the Thujanol chemotype has escalated.
Why? Because there was a drought in the high regions of Provence this summer. “But,” I asked, “Thyme thrives in dry weather, why is there a shortage?”
“Ah yes, the thyme did well. But the grass died, so the goats ate the thyme.”
We also were able to bring in a bit more Mastic. Amazing stuff!
New arrivals from Canada:
Organic Yarrow Hydrosol and more organically certified Wild Carrot Seed Hydrosol, as well as a new shipment of our organic Juniper Branch and Berry Oil and a small amount of healing Poplar Balsam Oil.
Just arrived this week, again from France:
Helichrysum Hydrosol, Wild Carrot Seed Essential Oil and new to us, Criste Marine Essential Oil, Crithmum maritimum, is commonly known as Sea
Fennel or Samphire or Rock Samphire. Reputed to be a powerful diuretic, said to
have both anti-oxidant scavenging and firming actions in skin care.
We also received a new supply of our Oxygen Barrier…for
those who purchase bulk sizes of our oils, this will help prolong their shelf
life.
NEW BLEND:
We have had a lot of requests recently for people wanting a
blend to support friends and loved ones in Hospice care. The name
that kept running through my head was Peaceful Crossing, a blend of
Frankincense CO2 for calming, centering and connecting with the Sacred, Atlas
Cedarwood, to calm anxiety and ease fears, Cypress, for comfort in times of
loss, Blood Orange, our sweet anti-depressant, Rose Otto for calming grief and
hysteria, and Spikenard, known for helping achieve inner peace, and releasing
fears and resentments, the oil of forgiveness. This blend was designed to
aid both the individuals preparing for the crossing, and the loved ones at their
side. Available undiluted to use in a diffuser or inhaler or in a skin safe
anointing oil (in jojoba oil) for topical use.
AUTUMN SPICE SALE:

OUR CLIENTS SAY:
Recently a Facebook group that shall remain anonymous hosted
a discussion of “which supplier do you prefer.” Amid all the MLM
recommendations from avid fans one message jumped out at me. Jennifer Berry wrote:
When I was starting out 20 years ago, I found an online
store called Nature’s Gift that was taking painstaking care to import
high-quality, 100% pure essential oils, and was sharing safe, accurate, and
useful information to enhance their use. In 20 years Marge Clark and her crew have never steered me wrong or sold me a bad product, and I’ve learned as much from their website as from any of the books
I’ve read. You will not be disappointed.
I shared that with Christi…it touched both of our hearts,
and we thank Jennifer, both for her lovely comment, and for letting us share
it with you.
Re Allspice Oil:
Dear Folks at Nature’s Gift,
I just wanted you to know that my recent
order, which included Essential Oil of Allspice, absolutely
rocked my world. The Allspice is very special and of exceptional
quality: It is all at the same time, sharp, warm, clear, deeply
spicy, exotic, familiar, and luxurious. I think it should be added
to the official list of aphrodisiac oils! I have long loved the
warm oils, but this one in particular, is of exceptional quality it
every way. The others I ordered were also of amazing quality (the
Ginger Root CO2, especially)….but that Allspice!! There are no
words! Sigh. Thank you.p>This was my first order from Nature’s Gift, and I am
so pleased, you can be sure that I will be a regular customer.Sincerely, Jacqui J
Now, it’s not often we get a chance to rock someone’s
world, so I thought we’d share this. I suggested to Jacqui
that next time she might want to sample Bay Laurel, since she loves
the warm spices. I think it will also appeal to her.
A Warming Blend
Dannie Lane, of AromaTherapeutics Medicinal Aromatherapy and
Massage shared this energetically (and physically!) warming blend last
winter. I thought it would fit in well with our Autumn Spice sale:
Ok, it’s cold out, very, very cold! This is Atlanta, we
should not have highs in the upper 20’s with wind chills in the mid teens!
Well I work out of my home and have some clients coming over this afternoon
so I want to make something warming, something to make the place “feel”
warm and welcoming. So I mixed up a blend of EOs that are energetically warm
to diffuse. The mix is:In a 5ml bottle with a dropper top blend
Ginger 50 drops: strong warming oil, gives a feeling of comfort and warmth,
openness
Cassia 25 drops: strongly warming to the body, not as HOT as cinnamon gives
the feeling of comfort (I like how it smells when defused better then
cinnamon)
Allspice 10 drops: it smells good, and gives energy to the place/home.
Black Pepper 15 drops: soft and light, gives a gentle warmth to a room,
think of it as a warm hug.
Cardamom 15 drops: love this oil, warming, sweet and spicy, but gentle at
the same time, very uplifting to the mind
Lemon 13 drops: light and sweet uplifting to the emotions and the mind.Add the EOs, one at a time, after adding each oil, swirl to mix and smell
the blend. When adding each oil, think of WHY you are adding it and what you
want the blend to do.Warning!!! These are powerful oils, defuse for 10 to 15 min at a time and
stop for 30 to 45 min, then defuse again for 10 to 15 min. I would not let
the defused oil get on finished surfaces!
An Autumn Blend from 14 years ago:
My friend June recently contributed this lovely seasonal blend for the diffuser or lamp:
Autumn Forest Blend
I just put together a forest-type blend of 15
drops Black Spruce, 1 drop Atlas Cedarwood, 1 drop Galbanum and have
it in my nebulizer right now. Lovely, rather like the woods on a
late autumn afternoon after a rain. Woodsy but with a touch of
composting leaves, very reminiscent of childhood walks in New
England. It will be interesting to see how it mellows after a few
days. I might even try this in a bath, diluting it in some Jojoba
oil first, or try it for meditation. Most intriguing.
This transplanted New Englander gets homesick every
October… and this blend DOES smell like home!
Sleep Sweet Linen Spray from Chasa Cochran of Back to Square One:
4 fl oz vodka, 20 drops Green Mandarine (Citrus reticulata), 14 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), 6 drops Himalayan Cedarwood (Cedrus deodara), and 4 drops Blue Tansy (Tanacetuum anuum)… add essential oils to the vodka, shake well and spray your pillowcase.
