  • Olfaction and Dementia? Sara Holmes shared early information about some research she had been supplying—using different aromas to help detect early signs of dementia.
  • Lisa Browder wrote an article sharing her experience with the care and treatment of bedsores.

    Our Clients Say:

This month it’s all about skincare – Rosacea Treatment, and Cleopatra’s Serum.

Jamie of San Antonio (who asked that we not use her last name) wrote:

Love, love, love the rosacea cleanser and helichrysum hydrosol. It has been life-changing for my face. I can’t thank you enough. Never stop making it….never, never, never.

We wrote back and forth a bit and she shared that she had had been battling perioral dermatitis for over two years. The products she is using seem to have put it in remission and she had tried everything. “I finally have, for the most part, my face back. It is a huge emotional and physical burden lifted. So, please, never stop making this!”

I love it when our products make a difference!

    Collene from Chandler AZ wrote:

“I am so grateful to have found your site and would like to say how wonderfully effective your Rosacea products are. I purchased the sampler kit last month & much to my amazement, the relief they provided began nearly overnight! The condition still gets triggered quite often—usually by stress & our hot desert climate—but at least I now know where to turn for actual help. In addition to the Rosacea, my skin is extra-fragile due to scar tissue caused by 2nd-degree burns from an accident with household chemicals five years ago. Your products are the only I’ve ever found which soothe both conditions (most things out there just really ticked off my skin even further!). Better still, your products have even restored much of the appearance & silky texture of my complexion. For that, thank you, so much again. I cannot tell you how much that means to me.”

Because of the scarring she mentioned, we sent her some Helichrysum in Rose Hip Seed in hopes that it might help a bit…further dialogue about HOW she is using our products, that might be helpful tosomeone else…

“Thank you so much for your kind note & for sending along the sample bottle of Helichrysum—I really hope it will help! The very same areas on my face that were burned are, as luck would have it, those also afflicted by Rosacea. The combination can be pretty awful at times. I have dry skin to begin with, live in the desert, so assuaging the inflammation is difficult.

My experience thus far with your products has been absolutely excellent. If it helps, here’s how I’ve been using the Rosacea products: initially, twice-daily applications were needed but am now down to one, and sometimes only every other day. A dime-sized amount of cleanser provides plenty of lather, followed by a spritz of Helichrysum hydrosol, a dab of Treatment Gel & lastly, two drops of Silken Skin lotion.”

Nancy Zimmerman, of Tesuque, NM recently wrote “I was happy with my skin care products until I tried the sample of Cleo’s Secret Serum you sent with a recent order. Now I’m hooked!” When I wrote asking to quote her, as well as saying yes, of course, she commented:

“Feel free to use my comment. The dry air and harsh sun here in the Southwest are very hard on ‘maturing’ skin, so I appreciate a product that gives me the benefit of oils without heaviness or greasiness. I noticed a difference with just one application!”

    Formulas, Recipes and Suggestions:

    Tinnitus
Dr. Liana Carbón shared the following:

I have some experience with my ex-father-in-law who has tinnitus. Used Helichrysum, Cypress, Lavender & Juniper. Make a synergistic blend of the EOs, and let the oils sit so they can interact with each other for at least 24 hours, or longer if able.

Then add 15 drops of the oil blend into smaller bottle. Add one ounce oil carriers work well for this quantity of the synergy. (I like coconut oil.) Make sure to shake the blend of oils really well.

To use: put 1-3 drops into the palm of your hand. Breathe in the aroma and then apply the oil to the following areas: ear lobes, back of your neck, and affected tinnitus side (or both sides).

My father-in-law experienced dramatic results with this recipe, and is rarely plagued by the buzzing noises any more. Even though he’s an ex, I still send him the synergistic blend regularly!!

I am so glad Liana shared this — I frequently receive inquiries about using the oils for Tinnitus and have been at a loss. Please note that the blend is NOT put “in” the ear, but massaged around it. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has seen recommendations that essential oils be put IN the ear, not around it. This is a dangerous procedure and can do harm. The method of application that Dr. Carbón describes is both safe and effective.

    Origins-Type Salt Scrub
A Facebook Friend recently wrote about making one of the salt scrubs from our Hints and Tips file as Christmas Gifts. Although Christmas has come and gone, the recipe is still a winner:

A friend recently shared her formula for the commercial Origins Salt Scrub…basically it calls for one cup of Sea Salt, 1/2 cup of a mixture of rich and exotic carrier oils (you could use whatever oils you have on hand that suit your skin type).

The scent blend is as follows (enough for this amount of salt and carrier oils):

    10 drops peppermint essential oil
    5 drops orange essential oil
    5 drops spearmint essential oil
    3 drops rosemary essential oil

We tested the blend in the pouring room, bright and invigorating. This would be great in a morning shower. (You might want to do a double batch and package it in our PET bail jars, the same ones Origins uses for their scrub!)

Respiratory Blends (from an 8 year old newsletter):

Some time ago Donna Groom shared her Respiratory Protection Blend:
    eucalyptus radiata 4
    rosemary verbenone 4
    peppermint 4
    fir needle 4
    pine 1
    ravensara 4
    lemon myrtle 1
    cedarwood 1
    manuka 1
    laurel bay 1
This sounds like a wonderful blend for the diffuser or lamp. Thanks for sharing, Donna!

And, my personal favorite—from my mentor Michel vanHove:

    Equal parts:
Hyssop decumbens – Hyssopus montana (ex decumbens)
    Balsam Fir – Abies balsamea
Niaouli – Melaleuca quinquinervia ct cineol
    Eucalyptus globulus
Sea Pine (Maritime Pine) – Pinus pinaster
    Ravensara aromatica
    Scotch Pine – Pinus sylvestris
Best used in a nebulizing diffuser. My note, this is best used in daytime, energizing, as well as decongesting!

    Charity of the Quarter:

A new charity for the New Year. With so many troops finally returning from Iraq, and so many rotating in and out of Afghanistan, we have chosen the Wounded Warrior Project as our charity for the first quarter of 2012. It doesn’t matter what we, as individuals, think of the war itself, I think we all can reach out and support these young people who have given so much. The Wounded Warrior Project started as a program to provide comfort items to wounded service members has grown into a complete rehabilitative effort to assist warriors as they recover and transition back to civilian life. Read more about it on our specials page, and please, add a donation to your order.

    New Year’s quotes:

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day. ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right. ~Oprah Winfrey

    New Year’s Wishes:

May this year be filled with all good things… peace, prosperity, joy and abundance. May you be given everything you need, and some of the things you want!
