New to us, we’ve fallen in love with Ximenia oil’s honey-buttery like consistency which thins down upon warming in your hand. Jim calls the color “movie popcorn butter” in the pour bottle that becomes nearly a pale yellow as it warms to the touch. There is so much to love about Ximenia! Pronounced: Zee-me-knee-uh.
For one, it is a shelf-stable oil with a shelf life of 2-3 years if stored properly, away from heat and light. This is an amazingly long shelf life for a carrier oil. Fabulous!
Secondly, is the prized xymenynic acid only found in Ximenia oil and Sandalwood Seed oil. The two oils are actually “cousins,” from the Order, Santalales. If you like Sandalwood Seed oil, you will love Ximenia.
Xymenynic fatty acid is unique and being studied worldwide with interesting discoveries: it is anti-inflammatory-inhibiting inflammation, (not for internal use); anti-oxidant and anti-microbial. Also, according to the producer, Xymenynic fatty acid is shown to improve blood circulation and blood flow in the skin, thus helpful for varicose veins.
Ximenia is said to deeply penetrate the skin, moisturizing and in turn improving health and tone of skin. Skincare specialists rave about its use as an under-eye treatment, for puffy eyes.
As an excellent skin nourisher, it can be used around the eyes and in creams and lotions for infants and toddlers.
Gentle, skin softening. Anti-aging, anti-wrinkles, for dry and chapped skin. In cosmetics for lip balms, lipsticks, and hair conditioning products.
The possibilities are endless. We are looking forward to exploring many beneficial uses!
The aroma is very light. The consensus here is perhaps very slightly nutty-fruity but on dry down, not much scent remains. We are amazed at how soft and silky Ximenia leaves the skin. We can imagine adding it to lotion or using it on rough elbows or heels. Should be a new staple for dry, chapped Winter skin, and as the seasons change.
Please note: our new Ximenia oil is not as rapidly absorbed as some of our other carriers. We recommend using it as a part of a blend of lipids/fixed oils rather than applying it alone.
