This Canadian conifer is new to us. From our favorite Canadian distiller comes a very different conifer oil than our beloved Black Spruce and Fir Balsam.. This Canadian Hemlock oil is aromatically a bit deeper, perhaps a middle note, rather than the blythe top notes that the other oils bring. A bit deeper, darker aromatically. I saw Jim's smile as he was decanting it and thought, yes, this is another masculine oil.
We have been seeing this Canadian Eastern Hemlock oil recommended in pain relief blends, for muscular aches and pains. Like the more familiar Black Spruce it is said to be supportive of the adrenals and of the immune system as a whole.
Emotionally it is said to be useful for anxiety and stress. However it is also said to be more stimulating than some of the other conifers, an aid to remaining focused. Not something I would diffuse at night when I am trying to quiet my mind for sleep, but wonderful when I am working and need both focus and emotional support.
Blends with: Cedarwood, Galbanum, Lavender, Pine, and Rosemary oils. I am thinking Rosemary would support its use for mental stimulation.. and a hint of Galbanum would give a "forest floor" aroma that intrigues me.
SHELF LIFE: Approximately 2 to 3 years after you open the bottle. Storing in the dark, refrigerated, and decanting half full bottles into smaller, full bottles will extend shelf life.
