Canadian Balsam Fir was the Christmas tree of my childhood, and I can’t pour this Fir Needle Oil without being taken back to that time.
Balsam Fir, like many of the Conifer Oils, is useful for chest colds, bronchial problems, etc. It is especially called for to loosen a dry, tight cough. This is a safe and effective oil to diffuse for respiratory ailments with babies and/or toddlers.
Fir is a warming oil, and, as such, is useful in rubs for arthritis, rheumatism, and other forms of joint pain.
Emotionally it is said to be grounding and calming, effective in anti-anxiety blends.
Safety: No warnings except oxidation in old, improperly stored oils.
It is a wonderful ingredient in any room-scenting blend, blending well with Basil, Black Pepper, Cajeput, Cedarwood, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Ginger, Lavender, Lemon, Myrtle, Niaouli, Peppermint, Pine, Rosemary, Rosewood, Tea Tree, Thyme. For a Christmas scent, blend it with a citrus, either Orange or Tangerine or Mandarine, and add just a touch of the spice oils, Cinnamon and/or Clove.
SHELF LIFE: Approximately 2 to 3 years after you open the bottle. Storing in the dark, refrigerated, and decanting half full bottles into smaller, full bottles will extend shelf life.
