  Argan Oil (no ratings yet)
Argania spinosa, organically produced, extra virgin, cold-pressed, artisan oil made by a women’s cooperative in Morocco.

Argan Oil, liquid gold, is rich in poly-unsaturated fatty acids, including linoleic acid, omega-6, and natural tocopherols. It is said to be nourishing, regenerating, and protective for all skin types.

Thanks to its exceptional content of unsaturated fatty acids, Argan Oil helps in the restoration of the hydro-lipidic film of the skin. Linoleic acid, which is one of the omega-6 fatty acids is a precursor of vitamin E. Linoleic acid is present in Argan Oil at a concentration three times higher than in olive oil. As an essential fatty acid it has a key role in preserving cell integrity. The particularly high content of natural tocopherols gives the oil excellent anti-free radical and anti-stress activities and natural self-protection against oxidation.

Argan Oil is widely used by Moroccan women for skin, hair, and nail care and has been for centuries. Many traditional beauty secrets are based on Argan Oil.

For the skin: Excellent anti-free radical effect for preventive anti-aging; nourishes dry skin with a tendency towards eczema by helping to restore the skin’s protective barrier; a sebum regulator/balancer for oily or combination skin; ideal as an all over body oil or for facial care.

When applied to the skin Argan Oil penetrates rapidly leaving an extraordinary softness and sensory feel. The only faster absorbing oil we have experienced is Marula Oil.

Other sources indicate that Argan Oil is useful for reducing wrinkles, moisturizing dry skin, reducing visible scars left by acne, chicken pox, and spots and other damage like chapped, cracked skin, and on burns and scalds. (I have yet to find a natural remedy that is effective for acne scars, so I am eager for feedback on this!)

For stretchmarks: Regenerating for removing stretchmarks and accelerating healing. In Liquid Sunshine, Jan Kusmirek recommends a blend of Rose Hip Seed Oil and Argan Oil for treating and/or preventing stretch marks.

For hair: Fortifies hair giving it brightness, softness, and a silky effect; nourishes and revitalizes the scalp; as a hair conditioner, Argan Oil is said to restore shine and luster to dull, lifeless hair.

For nail care: Traditionally it is used in an equal part mixture with lemon juice applied to the nails in the evening and kept on over night. When used regularly this mixture strengthens brittle nails and softens cuticles.

I have also read that it can relieve joint pain.

Can be used 100% strength but normally used at 2–10%. in a blend of other oils. (I personally love it full strength, perhaps with just a touch of Rose and Sandalwood as a body oil!)

Because of its high proportion of natural tocopherols Argan Oil should have a fairly long shelf life.
