If you are a nurse or nurse practitioner, esthetician, massage therapist, respiratory therapist, acupuncturist, occupational therapist, physical therapist or naturopath (in other words, you have a license under which you may use essential oils in treating your clients), then this is an excellent introduction to the clinical use of essential oils.

Aromatherapy Home Study Courses
If you are not a licensed health care practitioner, but want to extend your knowledge of the safe and effective use of these healing oils, please investigate the courses below.
It’s important to bear in mind that aromatherapy certification in the United States is, unfortunately, meaningless. There is no official recognition of certification by any state governing agency. In order to practice any sort of hands-on healing therapy, one needs a professional license (e.g., massage therapist, physical therapist, registered nurse, etc.) However, this does not negate the value of either a correspondence or a “hands-on” course leading to certification. No matter how much self-study one does, and how much experience one may have with oils, there are bound to be gaps in our knowledge.
The following is a listing of correspondence courses based in North America that we endorse. We have had employees enrolled in the West Coast Institute course and my former assistant Christi completed coursework at the Institute of Integrative Aromatherapy.

Travel: for those longing to see the source of some of these luxury aromatics, or just to indulge and nurture your wanderlust, there can be no better tour guides than my friends Jim Llewellyn and Robbi Zeck of AromaTours.
