A cousin of the healing Myrrh Oil we have always offered, this sweet Myrrh is most likely the Myrrh spoken of in the Song of Solomon. Unlike our astringent and healing Myrrh, this has a sweeter, softer, and longer lasting aroma, very different from the sharp freshness of Myrrh Oil. It has been a component of incense and perfumes since Biblical times.
Some sources state that it has a drying action and thus would be effective against excessive mucous in the lungs. Hence it could be recommended in cases of bronchitis, colds, sore throats, and coughs. From a respiratory standpoint it would have just the opposite effect of our Inula graveolens, which loosens a tight dry cough. The Opoponax should help dry up a really “soupy” cough.
Primarily, though, I would use this sweet base note in blending for perfume. One friend says it reminds her aromatically, of our Oud. At first I couldn’t see the similarities, but in the drydown, the resemblance is there.
BLENDS WITH: Orange, Lemon, and other Citrus Oils, Frankincense, Neroli, Patchouli, and Sandalwood.
WARNING: Possible sensitizer. Those sensitized to Peru Balsam should avoid use on the skin. Also, a photosensitizer, avoid exposure to ultraviolet light when wearing Opopanax.
SHELF LIFE: Approximately 3 to 4 years after you open the bottle. Storing in the dark, refrigerated, and decanting half full bottles into smaller, full bottles will extend shelf life.

This new distillation will age beautifully. First inhalation impressions are of an oil on its way to becoming a deep and dark version of Patchouli oil. As it ages it can only improve, so I would suggest buying some to store for a few years.
Patchouli, oil of the 60’s is an effective anti-inflammatory for the skin, helpful in healing cracked or inflamed skin, acne, dermatitis, and eczema. It is said to tone and tighten the skin, and is used in many anti wrinkle blends. At the same time it helps regulate oily skin and dandruff. Some authorities say it is useful in appetite suppressant blends and, with its skin toning qualities, in combating cellulite.
Patchouli oil truly stars as an excellent base note for perfume blends, and is generally considered an aphrodisiac. In small quantities it has a mildly sedative effect, while in large quantities it may be stimulating.
BLENDS WITH: Bergamot, Clary Sage, Geranium, Lavender, Myrrh, the sweeter Citrus Oils, Nutmeg and Cinnamon Leaf, as well as other base notes— Sandalwood, Rosewood, etc.
SHELF LIFE: Approximately 5 to 8 years after you open the bottle. Storing in the dark, refrigerated, and decanting half full bottles into smaller, full bottles will extend shelf life. (This is the official estimate. Experience shows that with proper storage it could be much longer.)
Please keep in mind that Patchouli is very thick and may have a hard time coming out of the orifice reducers in the bottles. You’ll most likely need to take the orifice reducer out and pipette the Patchouli out. Be sure to replace the orifice reducer, as it is what creates a seal between the bottle and top.

Christi was our patchouli lover.. she smelled this sample, and said “we HAVE to offer this.” Another Patchouli? we already have two. (I am not a Patchouli fan.) But then I smelled this beauty from Sumatra. And it’s deep…dark…mysterious. Not sweet, but sultry. yes. there’s mysteries here.
We label it “Patchouli, Dark” not for the color, as you can see it is a lovely light amber, but for the aroma. It is the deepest base note of all of our Patchouli oils, deep and dark, aromatically. I know the source, and we are offering it before I have the test results. When the testing is done, the price will go up to match our Indonesian and Indian oils. If you want to order this Sumatran oil at a lower price, act now. Christi found it exotic, dark, and mysterious. An excellent Patchouli to explore.

NEW and Back in Stock:
A new ITALIAN Helichrysum (yes, Helichrysum italicuum, organically produced on the island of Sardinia, off the coast of Italy (just a stones throw across the Mediterranean from Corsica). I was sourcing more of our healing Balkan Helichrysum and found this wonderful specimen, even higher in neryl acetate than its Macedonian predecessor, but, lower in the italidiones than our unique Corsican Oil , which we will reserve for surgical and burn scars. HOWEVER, this new oil from a new (to us!) producer is wonderfully effective for nerve and joint pain, bumps and bruises, all the healing uses of a fine Helichrysum italicuum. And, since it *does* contain italidiones (over 4%) I find myself asking what percentage of italidiones do we NEED for scar healing? I don’t think anyone knows. I have had some chemists tell me they have never seen an oil with over 6% italidiones. I don’t have the answer. Will this Italian specimen be as effective for scar healing as our Corsican oil? Too soon to tell. We hope to get feedback from those who try it. In the meantime, I am using this oil in my research project.

Aroma: The aroma of this cedarwood is a beautiful balsamic and lightly sweet one that is just dreamy! It has a nice woodsy aroma that is similar to my beloved Alligator Juniper, but is not as pronounced. The color is just as beautiful as the aroma, too! It is a deep red to brown color that is quite eye catching!
Aromatherapist notes: This particular essential oil is distilled from the heart wood and not the outer portion of the trunk wood so the color will be a beautiful deep red to dark brown color.
Growing up in Oklahoma, I was surrounded by these trees! I have always been deeply connected to them so I had to find a distiller that offered it. I like to use this particular cedarwood for littles when they have colds. I have found it to be soothing and can help break up mucous associated with respiratory colds. It also makes a wonderful addition to muscle tissue blends with the cedrene’s anti-inflammatory actions.
Recommended applications: Diffuse, topical application using safe dilution ratios, steam inhalation, inhaler.
Blends with: Bergamot, Black Pepper, Black Spruce, Blood Orange Cinnamon, Clary Sage, Clove Bud, Cypress, Douglas-fir, Eucalyptus Ironbark, Grapefruit, Ginger, Helichrysum, Kunzea, Red Mandarin, Sweet Marjoram, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Scotch Pine, Vetiver, and Ylang Ylang.

A couple of months ago, our good friend, Lola King completed her final inventory for Be Kind Botanicals. It was both a blessing and bittersweet. She worked for close to a decade to provide the best oils she could find, even if it meant processing the plant material herself and having a distiller obtain it through distillation. When Marge heard the news of her closing Be Kind Botanicals, she jumped at the opportunity to snag some of her finest inventory before it was gone for good. We are delighted to present to you our “Be Kind” Collection, so that you can experience what Lola and Marge find to be some of the most exquisite offerings of essential oils from around the globe… New Zealand Lavender may be the top of the list. These are in limited supply and will only be sold in retail sizes.
GC/MS Analysis:
Lola’s Virginia Cedarwood
Aroma: This essential oil has a very balanced, sweet, and floral aroma. It is soft, elegant, exotic and works wonderfully as a middle note in many blends. Consider it a honeyed aromatic with so much beauty, it’s revered as a beautiful moon Goddess!
Aromatherapist notes: It is important to know there are five different types of Ylang Ylang essential oil. They are ‘extra,’ ‘first,’ ‘second,’ ‘third,’ and ‘complete.’ The first four are known as fractional distillates that are named according to when they are collected during the distillation process and can have very sharp penetrating aromas.
The ‘complete’ is a combination of all four distillates and has a more round and pleasant aroma. I tend to utilize this essential oil more than the separate distillates because it also has a higher potential for therapeutic effects. I tend to use this more in blends for emotional, cardiac and sleep support. I have also used this for a few valentine blends.
Recommended applications: Diffuse, topical application using safe dilution ratios, inhaler.
Blends with: Basil, Bergamot, Black Pepper, Cinnamon, Clary Sage, Clove, Cypress, Eucalyptus Ironbark, Geranium, Ginger, Grapefruit, Helichrysum, Ho Wood, Lavender, Lemon, Lime, Red Mandarin, Nutmeg, Sweet Orange, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Petitgrain Bigarade, Rose absolute, Vetiver, and Virginia Cedarwood.
Additionally, avoid using too much of this oil. One drop will go a very long way in your blends.
Safety Data: This is essential oil is considered non-toxic but can cause skin irritation or be sensitizing. Use in low dilution when applying to the skin. Can cause headaches and nausea if dose is too high. This essential oil has the potential to lower blood pressure. Use with caution if you have low blood pressure.
Other considerations:
• There is moderate risk for skin sensitizations. The recommended maximum topical use is 0.8%
• Topical cautions for individuals include those with hypersensitive, diseased, or damaged skin.
• Caution should also be exercised when using this essential oil topically on children under 2.
• Do not place on broken skin.

Lola’s Ylangylang
Aroma: This essential oil has such a beautiful and peaceful smell. It is resinous, slightly sweet, warm, radiant, with hints of spicy undertones. It makes a wonderful base note for most blends and is truly an addictive aroma that I personally enjoy. When I say or write the words “Warm Aromatic Regards,” I instantly think of myrrh because it’s aroma is so friendly.
Aromatherapist notes: I am a big fan of myrrh as it can be very supportive for healing skin concerns and is a wonderful component in respiratory support blends. It is also fantastic for the skin in general! This is an essential oil that ages quite well and thickens over time. At times you may find that because of this, it may make the cap difficult to remove. A quick tip to help relieve this, is to use a Q-tip with a drop or two jojoba around the bottle’s neck. This will loosen anything on the glass as well as lubricate the cap when it is placed on the bottle alleviating the sticky resin and hardening of the myrrh in that area.
Recommended applications: Diffuse, topical application using safe dilution ratios, use in inhaler and steam inhalation blends.
Blends with: Allspice, Black Pepper, Black Spruce, Blood Orange, German Chamomile, Roman Chamomile, Cinnamon, Clary Sage, Clove Bud, Cypress, Geranium, Ginger, Alligator Juniper, Lavender, Red Mandarin, Sweet Orang, Patchouli, Peppermint, Petitgrain bigarade, Scotch Pine, Virginia Cedarwood, and Vetiver.
Safety Data: Myrrh essential oil is contraindicated for individuals who are pregnant or lactating.
Other considerations:
• Do not place on broken skin.

Lola’s Myrrh
Aroma: The aroma for the New Zealand Lavender is soft, floral, sweet, and uniquely balanced. It does not have an overpowering powder type smell.
Aromatherapist notes: This oil has a much lower linalol content than other Lavenders, but has a much nicer aroma in terms of its roundness. I actually prefer to use this lavender over a lavender from France due to its aroma. The large amount of ester content in this oil almost instantly allows you to relax as you breathe it in. I tend to use this essential oil more in sleep or anxiety related blends for this reason. It is an exquisitely crafted Lavender oil and a must have for Lavender lovers.
Recommended applications: Diffuse, topical application using safe dilution ratios, steam inhalation, inhaler.
Blends with: Black Pepper, Buddha Wood, Citrus oils, German Chamomile, Roman Chamomile, Clary Sage, Clove, Cypress, Eucalyptus Ironbark, Helichrysum, Alligator Juniper, Sweet Marjoram, Patchouli, Scotch Pine, Rose absolute, Virginia Cedarwood, Vetiver, Ylang Ylang.
Safety Data: This is essential oil is considered non-toxic and generally safe if used properly.
Other considerations:
• While lavender essential oil is estrogenic in vitro, it is NOT in vivo. (Henley 2007)
• Do not place on broken skin.

Aroma: Our oil has a fresh, clean, somewhat herbaceous and woody aroma with hints of a sweet, yet spicy citrus note that’s more prominent in the dry down. For an oil that’s steam distilled from the twigs of flowering branches, it has a good amount of depth to it. It’s the perfect middle note for blends that need a little something in between a citrus or heavy woodsy oil.
Aromatherapist notes: After studying this oil for a several months this year, I opted to use it in my incredible Muscle Rub blend. It’s soothing on sore muscles and aches and eases tension. This oil is also incredibly easy to blend with because it’s middle note. In fact it blends well with most citruses and heavy oils like Alligator Juniper and Vetiver.
The distiller shared that it has a wide range of uses within blends that include what I mention above as well as respiratory support.
This oil also lends itself to be a great emotional support oil during difficult times. Robbi Zeck says “when you need to transform pain and inflammation, Kunzea reaches inward and soothes acute as well as persistent knots of suffering.”
If you’re looking for blending ideas start with citruses and bright florals for top notes and use your heavier woods like Virginia Cedarwood as base notes.
Recommended applications: Diffuse, topical application using safe dilution ratios, steam inhalation, inhaler.
Blends with: Bergamot, Black Pepper, Black Spruce, Clary Sage, Cypress, Eucalyptus Blue Gum, Eucalyptus Ironbark, Geranium, Lavender, Lemon, Lemongrass, Sweet Marjoram, Sweet Orange, Patchouli, Scotch Pine, Rosemary ct cineole, Tea Tree, and Vetiver.
Safety Data: There are no known safety issues from research with this essential oil. Store in a cool, dark area to slow oxidation as it can become a skin sensitizer. Other considerations: Do not place on broken skin.
California Prop 65 Statement: This product does not contain any chemicals known to State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or any other reproductive harm.

Aroma: The aroma is sweet with spicy and comforting notes that give the feeling of warmth and comfort – perfect for the holidays! It can work as a base to middle note in blends and doesn’t require much to be used.
Aromatherapist notes: This is another wonderful oil to use as an alternative to cinnamon. It’s one I use in personal antiviral blends for its high eugenol content. It also has a density more than water which is pretty interesting and works great as a middle to base note in blends.
Recommended applications: Diffusing and topical application using safe dilution ratios.
Blends with: Buddha Wood, Black Pepper, Black Spruce, Blood Orange, Virginia Cedarwood, Cinnamon Bark, Clove Bud, Copaiba, Douglas-fir, Ginger, Ho Wood, Alligator Juniper, Red Mandarin, Nutmeg, Sweet Orange, Patchouli, Scotch Pine, and Vetiver
Safety Data: This oil has the potential to be a membrane irritant so it’s not recommended for steam inhalation tents. It has a low maximum dermal recommendation from Tisserand & Young’s Essential Oil Safety of 0.15% so care should be taken if using topically. There is also a concern for potential blood clotting issues.
Other considerations:
• Not recommended for use in bath products due to potential for sensitization concerns.
• Do not place on broken skin.
