New Staff Member and Birthday Party/Sale
We've had some changes in our Production department, and are blessed by
the serendipitous presence of Ms. Stephanie Hawkins. Last Autumn we
were advertising for a production assistant (the folks who do the actual
work of getting your products packaged and bottled, and boxed and shipped!).
One applicant seemed very well suited to our needs. Surely a Pharmacy
Tech would be accurate, and a perfectionist and all the things we need,
right? So we asked her to come in for an interview. OOOOPS. She
was a delight. But she was also five months pregnant. Now,
appropriate dilutions for aromatherapy uses of the oils is not going to
cause a problem for a pregnant woman. But the sort of "total
immersion" that goes on here? I was not about to take any chances.
So we regretfully told her we couldn't make her an offer.
About three weeks ago, we knew someone was leaving, and ran an ad,
locally. The day after the ad ran, I got an email from Stephanie, asking if
we remembered her, saying her daughter was now three months old, and that
she was ready to go back to work. No, she hadn't seen the ad. She'd called
us first before starting her quest because she really wanted to be here!
Some months we are just so fortunate we don't know what to do with ourselves!
At any rate, when she was filling out her tax forms and 'stuff' we
found out her birthday is July 9. To celebrate Stephanie's presence
with us, we are having a Celebrate Stephanie Sale - on July 9th enter the
Promotional Code "Stephanie" (without the quotation marks) and
receive a 9% discount on almost all of our retail products. Please
make sure that you do press "Apply" after entering the code. The
discount will show up onscreen. If it does NOT "take" please go back and
re-apply the code. As always, we can not apply the discount retroactively
once your order has been submitted.
Helichrysum!
The GOOD news is that this year I have been guaranteed our requested
allotment of our "Traditional" Helichrysum - Helichrysum italicum ssp
Serotinum
Some of you know that for the past three or four years we had been bringing
in 5 kilos of our traditional heli. Last year I requested 6, and was
allowed ONE. I did find a second one from a reseller, but that was ALL.
(The crop was dreadfully small, and demand always exceeds supply on this
precious healing oil.)
This year our five kilos are in process.
That's the good news. I don't know yet what our full costs will be,
since transportation costs have skyrocketed, and the dollar continues to
decline. I do know that we will be paying a minimum of double what we paid
in the past, and perhaps more than that.
Out of Stock Products:
I really do hate seeing so many of the oils and hydrosols on our list marked
"Out of Stock". It truly is temporary. We're arranging to reorder now with
my source in France, for the inula, and the hyssop, and (perhaps) the Wild
Lavender (not sure about that one yet!). Our South African supplier is sending
more Niaouli, and Clove Bud, and I forget what else. And the
Canadian oils will be in when they are finished being distilled. That, you
see, is the problem..."when they are finished"...
We wait until the plants are raised, and harvested, and distilled, and we wait.
Please be patient with us.
OUR CLIENTS SAY:
about helichrysum:
Chastity Akiki, of
Wildwood Acres recently wrote:
Hello Marge,
I so value feedback from my customers so I thought I'd give you mine. :) I did
order your "heli" and after two days I'm seeing a difference. I'd made a scar
serum using another "heli" and was questioning it's effectiveness. I'm seeing
now that you are right. A scar that I've had on my face since age 5 (I'm 31) is
started to lighten significantly after just two days. Thank you for carrying the
helichrysum that really works!
Sincerely,
Chasity Akiki
When I wrote asking for permission to quote her, I also asked the Country of
Origin of the heli she was replacing. Her reply:
The country of origin was Croatia. I used
my serum with that heli for several weeks with no noticable results. But I'm
excited to see what the coming weeks will bring since two days have shown such a
difference.
And THAT, dear friends, is why I don't really CARE how much the new crop of Helichrysum traditional is going to cost us. I've said for years, when
asked why I won't carry 'less expensive' Helichrysum that they weren't a good
value. Accept no substitutes! ;)
about Rosacea:
Miriam Karp, of Atlanta, recently wrote:
Marge,
I just wanted to let you know how amazing your Rosacea kit is. My skin in
January was almost unrecognizable to me, but now, even though I get an
occasional outbreak, I have the skin tone back and the outbreaks clear up so
much faster. Thank you so much for recommending the kit and for making your
wonderful products.
Miriam
When I wrote, asking her permission to quote, she added:
No problem quoting me. I'd love to help spread
the word and get women off of the antibiotics that don't work anyway. I forgot
to put in the original note that I can now even drink a glass of wine and eat
spicy food without getting my rosacea "mask" .
Miriam
I love it when our products can make a difference!
Mosquito Bites
My friend Beverley Hawkins, principal of the
West Coast Institute of
Aromatherapy recently wrote:
Tip for the Month
Melissa Hydrosol is great for soothing mosquito bites. If I am bitten by
mosquitoes or horse flies my skin generally react with a nice big welt.
Spraying Melissa Hydrosol on the bite not only takes out the itching it also
calms it down right away and instead of me scratching for 5 - 10 days, the
itch and irritation is generally gone in a day or two.
(I'm tempted to remind her that if she'd use our SkeeterBeater she'd not need the Melissa Hydrosol, but...)
Hand Cream - sun damage:
Ruth Gilbert just wrote:
My husband has bad sun damage on his hands which are red
and blotchy. When he used the Cleopatra\'s creme cleanser to remove sun
block from face and hands he discovered that it soothed and healed the sun
damage better than anything else, including the Cleopatra serum. Now it has
become his hand cream.
A Girl's Best Friend:
Last summer my friend Prakash sent me this note at my birthday...I had
stashed it, and just came across it. the link STILL makes me laugh!
Dear Marge,
I'm one of your customers and a loyal reader of your newsletters.
First of all, let me wish you a Fantastic Birthday!
How appropriate that, on your birthday, I'd see this $250 face oil
with rosehip seed oil as the primary ingredient. I thought you'd
enjoy seeing it. So, here's the link to it on luckyscent:
http://www.luckyscent.com/shop/detail.asp?itemid=38200§ion=4>http://www.luckyscent.com/shop/detail.asp?itemid=38200§ion=4
Hmmm. Seems we can save a bit of money shopping with Nature's Gift!
Many many good wishes,
Prakash
And we, OBVIOUSLY, need to start putting diamond dust in our products!
CHYPRE Blends
I'm told that the classic Chypre by Coty contained four notes:
bergamot, oakmoss, patchouli, and labdanum.(I would substitute
our new Cistus for the Labdanum) and that almost any combination of the four
- to your taste - will give a pleasing perfume. (We're thinking of
adding this combination to our Perfumer's Kit array, but not right now.)
PLEASE remember, when blending for topical use - perfumery - to always
choose Bergamot FCF rather than cold pressed Bergamot.
so, with those first four as a start...here are some other
ideas:
Gentleman's Blend
15 drops sandalwood
5 drops patchouli
2 drops oakmoss absolute
1 drop EITHER Blood Orange or Bergamot
Oakmoss Blend
10 drops oakmoss abs.
4 drops bergamot
4 drops rosemary
Oakmoss/Lavender blend
1 part oakmoss
1 part lavender CO2
1 part patchouli
Walk in the Woods
2 parts frankincense
1 part sandalwood
1 part cypress
1 part juniper
1 part sea pine
Springtime
15 parts lavender CO2
8 parts oakmoss absolute
5 parts neroli
4 parts rosemary Cineole

New Charity of the Quarter:
We appreciate all the support you have given to Women for Women
over the past several months, and had planned to let them remain for
a full year. But just last week we saw an article in our local
newspaper, The Nashville Tennessean, that moved all of us. The
story of an "Old Growth Forest" hidden away within the Nashville
city limits. The forest has been undisturbed for several
hundred years. The real estate corporation that owns it has
offered to let the group that supports many of our parks buy it. If
the money is not raised by the end of this year, it will be sold for
commercial development. I've tried to get pictures of the
area, without success.
At any rate, here is the link to the article that caught our
attention. For the months of July, August and September
Nature's Gift will be donating 2% of gross sales every Wednesday to
The Friends of Warner Park to add to the fund to purchase the
forest. If you choose to help us in this cause, our Specials
Page will house a link where you may donate when you are placing an
order.
Thank you!
